What Does Monitoring Infant Development Mean?

From birth, infants are under the care of a paediatrician, who monitors growth in weight, length, immunization, and nutrition.

It is essential to closely monitor aspects related to mobility, muscular, and skeletal development, as this allows for early detection of disorders or deformities that may appear at birth or during growth.

Additionally, cognitive development (knowledge, emotion, interaction, etc.) must be monitored throughout early childhood development.

Early intervention and guidance of parents by our doctors and therapists can make a significant difference in ensuring the harmonious and healthy development of young children, preventing potential long-term complications.

When Does a Baby Need a Complex Functional Assessment?

When the family notices unusual situations in the baby’s motor, cognitive, sensory, or emotional development.

It is important for parents, grandparents, and the entire family to understand the stages of early childhood development. We can teach you this, so that you can support your baby throughout their childhood and help them go through all the stages of physical and mental development properly.

In fact, it is recommended that every child under the age of 1 undergo at least one Comprehensive Functional Assessment.

Developmental Stages. What should a baby be able to do by the age of 1?

0-3 months:

- Lifts head slightly when lying on their stomach
- Follows objects with their eyes
- Moves hands and feet in a coordinated way
- Responds to sounds and begins to recognize familiar voices
- Starts to mimic facial expressions and sounds made by others

4-6 months:

- Sits with support and begins to roll from tummy to back and vice versa
- Grasps objects and brings them to their mouth
- Begins to differentiate between familiar people and strangers
- Laughs and coos to attract attention

7-9 months:

- Crawls or begins to move on all fours
- Sits up without support
- Stands with support
- Recognizes their name and responds to it
- Points to indicate what they want
- Imitates simple sounds and gestures

10-12 months:

- Takes first steps with support or even alone
- Learns to use objects
- Can express wants and needs through gestures and sounds

Each baby is unique and may reach these stages at different times, which is why the Comprehensive Functional Assessment is important, along with monitoring and, if needed, therapy to support the baby’s development.

We can help your baby progress properly through all these stages!
