Melania's story
When she arrived at the Maria Beatrice Center, Melania❤ could only crawl, following a perinatal developmental disorder, followed by cerebral palsy with asymmetric spastic tetraparesis.
After six sessions of 2 weeks each at the Maria Beatrice Center her coordination has developed to such an extent that she can now stand up on her own in her quadruped and manages to crawl on all fours, and following therapy she has improved her trunk and limb coordination to the point that she can now move around with the help of the frame!
At first Melania mainly used her left arm and tended to neglect her right arm, but now she also involves her right arm in games
We are now working intensively on raising from patrupedia (on all fours) to orthostasis (standing), increasing balance and initiating sustained and independent walking.
The Cuevas Medek technique, now present at the Maria Beatrice Center, is used internationally for the rehabilitation of children with motor delays and movement difficulties and elicits a progressively active response centered on existing and expected functional skills.
The technique trains balance, coordination and motor control, and is primarily aimed at eliciting automatic postural responses in children with movement disorders due to central nervous system dysfunctions caused by premature birth, cerebral palsy, head trauma, genetic syndromes.
Melania has a consistent and complete therapeutic package at the Maria Beatrice Center, both in the motor and cognitive areas: Specialized Medical Consultation Pediatric Neurology and Recovery Physical Medicine and Balneology, Cuevas Medek Exercises, Hydrokinetotherapy, Pediatric Kinetotherapy, Mechanotherapy, BalanceSuit, Occupational Therapy and Sensory Integration, but beyond the complexity of the therapeutic package, the priority in the Center is the approach based on common objectives of all areas of intervention, in a personalized therapeutic plan in relation to the needs of the child and the family.
